For the past few seasons blue has been ruling the fashion runways and this season, too, designers like Nachiket Barve, Araiya, Ruchi Mehta splashed the ramp with tints and shades of the colour BLUE. Worth mentioning were Gayathri Khanna and Babita Malkani’s collectons that included an environmental theme titled –‘SAVE THE OCEAN’. The colors and prints used in this collection were inspired from various under water sea life.

FASHIONABLY VIBRANT YELLOW

It’s time to brighten up your spirit and wardrobe with vibrant yellow. Designers opted for this vibrant shade that is all about fun and frolic. While some designers such as Priya and Chintan ,Manish Gupta and Gayathri Khanna stuck to vibrant yellow, others such as Arjun Saluja and Preeti Chandra opted for its subdued shade.

We have included a lot of yellows in our collection too, ranging from the vibrant to the softer shades. Not many like or can pull off a really vibrant yellow. For them, what we suggest is pair a yellow accessory or include at least one item of clothing in yellow with the rest of the outfit in subdued shades.

HUES OF GOLD AND ORANGE
Gold is back this season and it’s back with a bang. Not only does it flatter the tropical skin tone, it exudes luxury and grandeur. It is a big mistake to restrict gold only to jewellery , it looks great as the color of embellishments along with the base color of an outfit. Gold screams high glam quotient. It renders an extremely bold look.
Its summer, so one would naturally expect loads and loads of white, right? WRONG!! Surprise, surprise but warmer tones, especially ORANGE, stood out in this fashion week. It was overtly endorsed by Atsu, Tarun Tahiliani, Preeti Chandra, etc.

Summer is synonymous with classic shades of beige and white. Therefore outfits in beige and white are simply wardrobe essentials. Many designers had whites and beiges in their collection in the Lakme fashion week and Wills life style.

Lehenga Style Sari – Sari with a difference….

Lehenga Style Saree

Lehenga Style Saree

Since the sari has been considered as the most important item of clothing, for ages, when it comes to the Indian woman, it’s only natural that this Indian garment would undergo various kinds of experimentation and metamorphosis. True that the saree rules when it comes to versatility as this gorgeous 5 – 5.5 metres of cloth could be draped in numerous ways. In India, each region boasts of its own way of draping a saree. By virtue of its being an unstitched piece of cloth, the sari provides its wearer with multiple options to choose from, when it comes to draping it.
Along with the addition of new ways and style of draping a sari, recent times have witnessed certain changes in the sari itself, to give it a fashionable and modern touch. One such example would be the ‘butterfly pallu sari’ which was quite a rage few years back. A ‘butterfly pallu saree’ is similar to the ordinary sari except for the pallu. In a ‘butterfly pallu sari’, after a certain part the width gradually narrows to a few inches till it reaches the shoulder and the pallu flares out from the shoulder to almost its original width. It is similar to the effect created by an ordinary saree when the pallu is pleated and pinned to the shoulder part of the blouse. ‘Butterfly pallu sari’ achieves the same look without the pleats, hence imparting a modern and urbane look.

Lehenga Styled Sari

Lehenga Styled Sari

Another example of a modified saree is the ‘Lehenga style sari’, a trend that is catching up pretty fast. Once again, it is similar to the ordinary saree except for, in this case, the pleats part. While an ordinary sari requires pleats to be formed and tucked into the waist, a ‘Lehenga styled sari’ relieves its wearer of this bit of work. It simply doesn’t require any pleats. That doesn’t mean it looks plain and boring. It looks anything but that!!

Where pleats form an integral part of an ordinary saree, the ‘Lehnga style saree’ flaunts embellished flared patchwork at the front. It could be in the form of embellished godets, embellished panels or just a single wide embellished panel or godet at the front. Quite often, a ‘Lehnga styled sari’ flaunts a pallu in contrast color. This, further, makes the saree attractive and eye-catching.

The next question would be- how is it draped or worn? It’s easy. It’s draped just like a saree, without the pleats of course. However, there are various kinds of ‘Lehenga style sari’ and some varieties would require a different method of wearing it. But most of the ‘Lehenga style saris’ are draped like an ordinary saree. Since it is draped like an ordinary saree, accessories such as a blouse or choli and a petticoat are indispensable. It’s a good idea to stitch the blouse or choli of a ‘Lehnga styled sari’ with a fashionable design and cut. Think bikini style blouse, halter neck blouse, blouse with spaghetti straps, bustier blouse, etc.

Don’t forget to check out the fabulous ‘Lehenga styled saris’ in our very own RAIR collection!

A li’l something about the versatile blouse

Designer Blouse

Designer Blouse

Gone are those days when you could drape almost any saree with a plain white blouse or a plain black blouse. Except for a fashionable few, most of our Bollywood beauties of the bygone era stuck to a basic white or black blouse with a variety of saris. It would seem as if they were running short of blouses!

Can’t blame them either, as back then nobody was really ‘fashion conscious’. People didn’t pay much attention to their clothes such as saris, salwars and, least of all, blouses. Blouses were stitched in a basic pattern that featured short sleeves and a round cut at the back. Such was the time that any blouse could be paired with almost any sari. Shocking, but true!!

Now, of course, it’s quite different. Believe it or not, a blouse is paid more attention to than a sari. Rightfully so, since a blouse almost defines the entire look. Imagine a gorgeous sari with a terrible blouse, the sari would lose half of its charm. On the contrary, if a not-so-good sari is paired with an amazing blouse, it could actually work wonders!

The demand for well-tailored and stylish blouses is increasing with each passing day. Keeping that in mind, we have launched a range of amazing blouses that are wardrobe staples. Each blouse has been designed, keeping in mind the fact that it should be extremely versatile so as to be paired with most of the saris. Brocade has been used a lot, for the simple reason that it’s gorgeous and, of course, extremely versatile. Embellishments such as sequins, beads, zari, pita, stones, etc enhance the beauty of these blouses.

It would be quite wrong to pair all of these with a gorgeous saree, since the trick, here, is to create the right balance. Consider a gorgeous blouse with relatively simpler saris so as to make it more noticeable. A plain saree with an embellished border would complement it wonderfully. Saree with embroidered motifs would also look fabulous with it. It’s a good idea to steer clear of sarees that flaunt intricate embroidery throughout, when you think of a gorgeous blouse. At the same time, a heavily embroidered sari would look fabulous with an elegantly embroidered monotone blouse. When it comes to attractive patchwork blouses, you might wanna stick to minimally embellished monotone saris. Plain saris with appliqué work at the pallu would also look great. Every wardrobe should and must possess a black and a white embellished blouse. As archaic as it may sound, but the truth is that you simply can’t do without these two. And, neither could our leading ladies of those glorious years! Of course, embellishments give it a much more fashionable touch.

The blouses are designed keeping in mind the current fashion trends. Get smitten with our alluring halter-neck blouse or never-seen-before bolero style blouse.

Where there are just too many designer blouses for the slim types, there’s next to nothing for the rather healthy ones. Hence, they have no other option but to stick to the plain cut ones. Not anymore! We have some good news for the plump beauties out there. The same designer blouses are available in your sizes so that you, too, can jazz up your ensemble like your slim sisters. Start by checking out our plus size blouses.

Although it might be a bit challenging, but it’s loads of fun to play the mix ‘n match game with saris and blouses.

Black Magic….

Black Saree

Black Saree

Fashionistas swear by the color black. And so does everyone else. It’s a universal favorite. It’s the ultimate. It’s not for nothing that the rule of thumb, when in doubt, wear black, was invented. This color exudes sensuality, mystery, power and also elegance. Deemed as a formal color, it denotes authority and strength also. The popularity of le noir was elevated to another level thanks to the Little Black Dress (fashionably known as the LBD) made popular by Coco Chanel, which Audrey Hepburn epitomized in Breakfast at Tiffany’s.

Similar to the LBD, the black saree can also be considered as a fashion staple. Just as no wardrobe is ever complete without the little black dress, the absence of the black saree also makes a wardrobe incomplete. The black saree is a great option for the Indian woman as black is a slimming color and to add to that saree is a slimming outfit. Mais oui, you can’t expect to make a style statement draped in six yards of plain fabric. When it comes to monochrome, you need to play with surfaces and textures to achieve that panache. Embellishments with black sequins, black beads, black bugle beads, etc give it that shimmer and shine that break the monotony of black.

Our section Black Couture http://www.homeindia.com/fashion/Product.asp?ctgintid=789 is a good place to start hunting for that quintessential black saree. We offer an exquisite range including a lot of variety. Classic blacks, which do not possess the touch of any other color but rich embellishments with black sequins and beads imparts a killing look. You will love the way it shines and shimmers.

White Magic

White Saree

White Saree

Popularly believed to be the colour of purity, the moment you say white a soothing sense of calm pervades through your mind. Quite a contradictory colour when it comes to its inherent meaning as in few places it’s considered a color of purity and even for bridal wear, whereas in other places its regarded as a colour of mourning and death.
Whatever it may be, this classic hue is a fashion staple. Especially this season, as it’s the current rage. White is indeed the new black, so make sure you make a few whites part of your wardrobe. There are a quite a few celebs that are rather fond of this pristine shade. Magician of words, Gulzar, who is always donned in white kurta-pyjama, creates a dignified, no-nonsense yet chic look. The elder Kapoor sis, Karisma, seems rather fond of white too, since she’s been spotted wearing a white saree quite a few times, including at a recent awards function. Quite a few have been enamored by white this year as Bollywood beauties walked down the red carpet at the awards function in shimmering white sarees – Tabu, Dimple Kapadia, Rekha to name a few.
So if you haven’t invested in a gorgeous white saree yet, now would be a pretty good time to do so. Of course this subtle yet mesmerizing shade has its problems too, the most common being its maintenance. It flaunts dirt and filth more than any other colour, so keeping it spotless is rather a challenge. Also it’s better if you are on the leaner side, as being a light shade it’s not a slimming colour. But still, it’s worth the effort as white suits every skin tone. For those pristine whites, check out Smitten By White.

Time to drape a piece in white to leave others spellbound!!

Eternally Popular Salwar Kameez

salwar kameez

salwar kameez

Probably the most comfortable of all outfits, the salwar kameez or shalwar kameez is one of the most widely worn outfits today. It originated in the North but has spread its fame throughout. Not just by women, it is also worn by men, although there is a difference between both the outfits. The basic difference being, women include a dupatta in their outfit while men do not. The outfit includes a salwar which resembles a loose trouser along with a kameez that resembles a long tunic with long slits at the side. The slits enable easy and free movement. Women make this outfit attractive with their lovely dupattas. Churidar kurta or churidar kameez are a tighter version of salwar kameez which look quite smart but are not as comfortable as salwar suits. Trouser suits are a fashionable version of salwar suits. It is advisable to make a salwar out of a fabric that drapes beautifully. The salwar features drawstring around the waist that enables the gathering of the fabric thereby creating subtle ‘pleats’ or ‘folds’. These ‘folds’ appear much better if the fabric used is ‘drape-friendly’ rather than a ‘stiff’ fabric. There are versions of the salwar such as Patiala salwar and semi-Patiala salwar. While the Patiala salwar is stitched with numerous pleats for a heavily-pleated look, the semi-Patiala includes fewer pleats. The style and cut of the kurta or kameez varies thanks to the ever-changing fashion tastes. To begin with short kameezwas usually worn with a salwar. Then came the era of rather long kameez that ended few inches below the knee Recently, we again went back to short kurtas. As usual, Bollywood had a major role in determining the style of salwar kameez. Post ‘Bunty Aur Babli’, kurtas with collars became a rage and the streets were full of young college girls sporting loose salwars with collar kurtas in rather loud colors. ‘Laga Chunari Me Daag’ also established the popularity of Patiala salwars with short kurtas. Kareena Kapoor’s fusion look in ‘Jab We Met’ was a craze for sometime. Teaming the loose salwar with a long T-shirt or even with spaghetti, sans dupatta, became the new style statement. It is advisable to style your kameez or kurta keeping in mind your height. If you are the tall and lean type, stick to short kurtasthat end few inches above the knee or on the knee. If height isn’t one of your biggest assets, it’s better if you opt for the longer version of kurta , as the length of the kurta adds the illusion of height. No matter what changes or variations it goes through, you can be sure that this outfit would never lose its popularity. Fabric is not a problem with this outfit as it looks good when made out of any fabric. Cottonwould be the first choice when it comes to comfort. Silk, silk blended cotton and georgette< would be advisable if you desire something fancy and gorgeous. Embellishments make this outfit truly gorgeous and suitable for any formal occasion.

Bag It!!

Handbags

Handbags

Bags are a must to give any outfit a complete look. Not only are they absolutely indispensable as a fashion accessory, they are extremely necessary for practical purpose. Imagine stepping out without a handbag, it’s unthinkable isn’t it? Where would we stuff our millions and zillions of precious necessities?

What’s great about a bag is that it could really jazz up your outfit. Try a bright colored bag or one with lots of gleams and glimmer ( http://www.homeindia.com/fashion/bigprdimgt.asp?prdintid=19095 ) with an outfit in neutral or rather subdued shades. But, of course, do not team a shiny bag with an equally bright and shiny outfit. You would not want to blind people, do you?? http://www.homeindia.com/fashion/bigprdimgt.asp?prdintid=19098 , http://www.homeindia.com/fashion/bigprdimgt.asp?prdintid=19100 , http://www.homeindia.com/fashion/bigprdimgt.asp?prdintid=13081 ) look fab with Western outfits and go great with salwar suits too. http://www.homeindia.com/fashion/bigprdimgt.asp?prdintid=11710 Consider a gorgeous clutch bag with a great saree when it comes to weddings or parties. http://www.homeindia.com/fashion/bigprdimgt.asp?prdintid=19107 http://www.homeindia.com/fashion/bigprdimgt.asp?prdintid=14104 http://www.homeindia.com/fashion/bigprdimgt.asp?prdintid=14707http://www.homeindia.com/fashion/bigprdimgt.asp?prdintid=19106 http://www.homeindia.com/fashion/bigprdimgt.asp?prdintid=19104

Party Wear
Party Wear

If you think being a kid is easy, think again!! All those subjects at school with the additional burden of homework and of course, not to forget those extra-curricular activities. And to top it all, they are expected to be well dressed for any occasion when kids wear is one of the most ignored areas in the fashion world. Gone are those when the kids could wear almost anything and walk out. Believe it or not, times are such that a family’s status is sometimes also defined by what the kid wears. Crazy, but true!! And it mostly occurs at parties and other social dos. Of course, the prime object of scrutiny would be what the parents wear, but immediately after that, it would be the kids.
It’s pretty important in another way too, as what your kid wears is actually a reflection of your taste. Kids are too young to know anything about fashion, though nowadays you cannot underestimate them. Ultimately they wear what you threaten them to wear. Therefore, also keep in mind that it doesn’t become a threat to your status in the society.
Everyone likes to dress up, be it a kid or an old person. Everyone likes to look good. With kids you have more options as you could make them wear almost any color. Even those that you would dread thinking about, when it comes to you. The key word is bright. Kids can carry off the brightest of colors. It’s the age. Years later if spotted in the same color, it would be a fashion faux pas. Frocks are an all-time favorite when it comes to girls. Check out these frocks with bolero for that fashionable touch-
